How do you choose a SEM/SEO provider

It's REALLY confusing trying to choose an SEO/SEM provider. I understand it is an investment, but we need to get outstanding bang-for-buck. Is it best to go to the big guys such as Sensis or a small home grown business?

Answer: A good way to check out an agency and how good they are is to see how well they do their own marketing. ie. If they are an SEO agency are they ranking at the top for their own search terms? Have they got a blog? Make sure you do not go ahead with any agency locking you in to a contract - there are plenty that will have you on a month on month contract as they back themselves to perform and know you will stay on board if they get you results. Hi there, I definitely won't advice to go to big guys like Sensis for a small home business, you wouldn't get as much time and custom solutions as you would from a local agency or even a freelancer.

Answer: When choosing an SEO/SEM agency, keep these questions in mind: what past campaigns have they managed, what was the return on investment on these, how were these campaigns executed and how frequently do they report results? Also check if they've handled a campaign for a business like yours before.
